The saddle: redefined

Introducing the Bua saddle, bringing the saddle into the 21st century to accommodate the needs of the modern rider & horse. The revolutionary and award winning innovative Bua saddle pushes the boundaries in modern saddle design with its patented cantilevered tree and use of modern day technical materials, as seen in aerospace production. Martin Ryan, designer of the award winning Bua saddle, saw the common issues that arose from the traditional, single tree design of equestrian saddles, and sought to design a new saddle concept that would allow for a more comfortable and harmonious connection between horse and rider. After much designing, testing, and endless hours tucked away in the University of College Dublin’s Veterinary library researching the anatomy and biomechanics of the horse and its natural movement, the cantilevered tree prototype was created. Almost a two tree design, the cantilevered tree is designed to accommodate the different movements of a rider and horse, therefore creating a better connection, while allowing for the pressure to be more evenly distributed with less concussion on the horse’s back to a traditional saddle tree. 

The tree uses the latest in carbon fiber innovation, allowing for an extremely strong, flexible and durable tree that can withstand hard wear. The material was rigorously tested over millions of cycles, simulating the rider’s use of the saddle, with no durability or strength issues, and thus was the chosen material for the tree.

Because of the cantilevered carbon fiber tree design with the panel system underneath, the Bua’s design allows for a flexible fit that accommodates a wider range of horses, from thoroughbreds, cobs, sport horses and warmbloods. The saddle’s panel system offers the rider flexibility to add or remove the foam as necessary, according to the horse’s conformation. This allows for a single, modular saddle to be used on a variety of horses, lessening the need for multiple saddles for multiple horses. 

Weighing in at 4kg, the Bua is one of the lightest saddles available on the market, easing excess weight on the horse’s back. 

Because of the modular design, the Bua saddle can easily be changed according to your discipline of riding. Whether show jumping, eventing, dressage, endurance or just a leisure rider, you can easily change the flaps to accommodate your equestrian discipline.
